Don’t join a phoney union – go for the real thing!
Whenever there is a phoney union in the workplace, it’s there because the employer was not willing to deal with legitimate unions.
When an employer voluntarily recognises an organisation, workers aren’t consulted on who will represent them. By voluntarily recognition, the employer avoids going through the sometimes complicated and challenging process of certification. In those cases, we often find that contract language is written to benefit the employer and many collective agreements are negotiated without a membership vote.
Frequently, these phoney agreements have anti-strike clauses. Wages, benefits and working conditions are generally substandard to those negotiated by real unions.
The real purpose of phoney unions is to accommodate the needs of the employer, not to protect the rights of the worker. Phoney unions don’t work for you. JOIN A REAL UNION. Join the IAM!
